I have a chattering sound coming from under the cover of the drive belt. I don't have anyloss of power or anything but the sound sometimes gets kind of loud. Any Ideas?

How new (how many miles) is your scoot?  Up until about 500 miles, mine have chattered, (I've had 3 Helix's),  but once everything
seated in, the chatter went away....and never returned after that.  (Prior to the 500 miles, the chatter would also be louder if the
scoot was still cold but quieted down after it warmed up.)

The scooter is a year old. I have over 2600 miles. It seems to be louder after I've driven it for a while. I only started to get the sound about 300 miles ago.

ToolTim, did you ever figure out where the chattering was coming from?  I was experiencing the same chattering and couldn't figure out where it was coming from so I replaced my weight rollers today thinking it might have to do with it and upon disassembling I found the tube band holding my crankcase cover to the drive belt air cleaner was loose from the screw being lost.  I can see the paint was wore off from it rattling around.  Maybe this is your problem - not sure but its worth a shot.  I went to Home Depot and bought a 5 metric hex screw and tightened it right up and guess what?  Chatter gone.

I have a loud chatter too, with the belt case cover off it seems to be coming from the variator rather than the clutch. With the engine off i felt the variator on the metal guide that it sits on and there was a lot of play. I'm not sure how much play is normal but i was able to wobble my variator around on it pretty well. I'm thinking the chattering is the variator wobbling on its guide, does anybody know if theres supposed to be any play on these parts? should i replace the guide?
